  • Welcome to my blog!

Hi! I'm Traci. I'm a Registered Nurse who loves quilting, knitting, cross stitch, and the great outdoors. In my pre-scrubs life, I owned Real Photography, and you can still see my old wedding and portrait photography site here .

I've created a map that shows links to our camping/hiking/general family fun review posts that you can find here. It's pretty much the coolest thing on this site. Thanks, Google!

I great big puffy heart *love* comments, so please let me know you visited! I try to always reply!

yard sale wrap skirt from heather ross’s weekend sewing

Look what I made!

It ties.

It twirls.

It has a rolled hem and serged seams!

That’s right–I broke out my brand new (old) serger for this one!  After months of Craigslist stalking (seriously–I logged on every night for months to do national searches) I found a Baby Lock Imagine on Craigslist for $300 (they retail for 5-6 times that amount, but I’d heard rumors of people picking them up for crazy cheap on Craigslist, so I was determined to find a good deal).  Best of all, it was 5 minutes from my grandmother’s house in Washington state, so I asked her pick it up to mail to me since so many craigslist people get weird when you ask them to ship something.  (Now I just have to figure out something awesome to serge for her as a thank you!)  🙂

It came with the $200 accessory foot bundle and all the original manuals and accessories.  When I took it in to be serviced you could tell they couldn’t tell whether to marry me for my awesome bargain finding or arrest me for totally ripping someone off.   😛   I totally love it and am already working on a dress for Ellie as well as another skirt from this pattern with a few alterations (as you can see, it’s a pretty retro skirt with a super high waist and long hem–I’m going to shorten it by 5″ and halve the height of the waistband).  Since there’s no tension to mess with on the serger and the threading is taken care of by the amazing jet air technology of robots, it’s pretty much idiot proof!  Watch out world…I’m about to serge the crap out of some stuff.

Alli - Ooh, yay for your awesome serger find!

I know it’s not really useful now, but just in case it might be useful in the future, here’s an article that describes how to use Google Reader to get your Craigslist searches done without having to repeat it everyday: http://www.deannorman.com/blog/how-to-efficiently-find-deals-on-craigslist-using-google-reader.html

I made myself a feed to keep an eye on fabric being sold in my state. 🙂

Susanne - Very cute. I’m SO jealous of your auto threading. I have auto tension, but someone forgot to tell her that before boxing her up…so I always have to do a test strip. Can’t wait to see what else you make!!!
