{"id":1746,"date":"2008-12-09T10:50:18","date_gmt":"2008-12-09T17:50:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/realphotography.com\/blog\/?p=1746"},"modified":"2008-12-09T10:50:18","modified_gmt":"2008-12-09T17:50:18","slug":"photography-tip-tuesdays-christmas-gift-ideas-for-photographers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.needlesandapen.com\/photography\/photography-tip-tuesdays-christmas-gift-ideas-for-photographers\/","title":{"rendered":"Photography Tip Tuesdays: Christmas Gift Ideas for Photographers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m back from my shoot in New York and catching up.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to share some pictures from the trip!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had a bunch of requests to bring back Photography Tip Tuesdays and Photoshop Fridays, so I am going to do my best to have at least one of these every week!<\/p>\n<p>This week is gift themed.\u00a0 Photographers are difficult to buy for because we usually want things that start around the four figure mark.\u00a0 :)<\/p>\n<p>But I have a couple of items in my bag around $40 that I am love and odds are good that other photo-enthusiasts will, too!<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rei.com\/product\/773910\" target=\"_blank\">REI&#8217;s mittens\/fingerless gloves<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.needlesandapen.com\/photography\/blog-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/photography_gift_gloves.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These are my cold weather staple!\u00a0 There are a lot of mitten\/gloves on the market right now, but these are by far my favorite because they have thumb holes.\u00a0 Fingers are all well and good, but I can&#8217;t change lenses or even operate some controls on my camera wihout my bare thumb.\u00a0 They also come in different sizes, which is awesome for girls with abnormally long fingers (like me)!\u00a0 And best of all, this year they come with a little tab that snaps the left and right glove together so you won&#8217;t end up losing one (like me)!<\/p>\n<p>2) <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackrapid.com\/innovations.php\">Rapid-R Camera Strap<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.needlesandapen.com\/photography\/blog-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/photographer_gift_camera_strap.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is probably the most money you&#8217;ll ever spend on a camera strap.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s comfortable and hugely functional.\u00a0 I have a tendency to whack small children and dogs on the head with my camera\/telephoto lens combo when I bend over, because with traditional camera straps, the camera swings out from your body when you bend down.\u00a0 This one keeps it right by your hip and the movement is very minimal as you move around.\u00a0 I was a skeptic, but I&#8217;m a huge fan now.\u00a0 I was also worried that it would look dorky (they need someone young and cool in their videos&#8211;pronto), but it really doesn&#8217;t look any more stupid than your tradtional camera strap.\u00a0 :)<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Galen-Rowells-Inner-Outdoor-Photography\/dp\/039304985X\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1228844697&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\">The Inner Game of Outdoor Photography<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/reader\/039304985X\/ref=sib_dp_pt#reader-link\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.needlesandapen.com\/photography\/blog-old\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/12\/photography_gift_book.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t your standard nature photography book.\u00a0 It doesn&#8217;t even have that many pictures in it, and it&#8217;s not going to rehash the same old topics of gear and composition.\u00a0 Instead, it&#8217;s a serious look at the cognitive processes involved in the taking and viewing of images.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not a light nor easy read, but it&#8217;s a fascinating look at a more academic side of photography!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;m back from my shoot in New York and catching up.\u00a0 I can&#8217;t wait to share some pictures from the trip!\u00a0 I&#8217;ve had a bunch of requests to bring back Photography Tip Tuesdays and Photoshop Fridays, so I am going to do my best to have at least one of these every week!
