  • Welcome to my blog!

Hi! I'm Traci. I'm a Registered Nurse who loves quilting, knitting, cross stitch, and the great outdoors. In my pre-scrubs life, I owned Real Photography, and you can still see my old wedding and portrait photography site here .

I've created a map that shows links to our camping/hiking/general family fun review posts that you can find here. It's pretty much the coolest thing on this site. Thanks, Google!

I great big puffy heart *love* comments, so please let me know you visited! I try to always reply!

Tomorrow is the Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Day!  I’m participating and have cracked open the vault for some out of print / hard to find Amy Butler Ginger Bliss and Charm fabrics.  😉  Up for grabs is your choice of one of these two bundles, one a little girly, one a little more masculine.  If you’re a first time visitor to my blog via for Giveaway Day, thanks so much for stopping by!  I hope you’ll like what you see and add me to your feed reader or stop by again soon!

On the left is a bundle with 1/2 yard of linen, 4 kona cotton fat quarters, and a 22×13 piece of Amy Butler Ginger Bliss.  On the left is a bundle with a 1/2 yard of linen, 3 kona cotton fat quarters, and 1/4 yard of my favorite print from the Amy Butler Charm line. They are the perfect bundles for some pillow or baby quilt making!

There are two ways to enter:

2)  Add my blog to your sidebar (if my blog is already on your sidebar, you qualify for this too) for two additional entries!  Once my blog is linked on your site, please leave two additional comments (these can be as simple as “linked your blog pt 1” and “linked pt 2”). (I do check, so please wait until it’s set up to comment!)

I will have my husband randomly pick a number on Friday, Dec 17th @ 11pm Mountain Time.  If your comment is that number, voila!  You are the winner!

Well, a few years back I was so overwhelmed by Christmas – just plain frustrated. I really do not like shopping. Really. So I took some time to think over the whole Christmas thing, and now I look forward to Christmas because I’ve discovered that I am very rich. Not in money, you understand, but in creativity. I only recently learnt about freestyle sewing and find it fascinating, so I will definitely check out your tips for it. There, bookmarked your site!

As for favorite holiday tradition – my children are still small (5, 4-as-of-yesterday and 1), but the two eldest show a keen interest in crafting. So I am writing down an idea-for-crafts list for the holidays and hopefully, we will be able to turn it into a tradition in the years to come, as indoor-activities is what we need with this cold!
A “true” tradition already is sledding down a perfect kiddy-hill we discovered at an open-air sculpture park. It’s perfectly calm and quiet there, and it’s quite nice to woosh down between those frozen statues 🙂

Thank you!

Jennifer P - My favorite tradition started when I was a kid and continues with my kids today. They each get to open our gift to them and then it’s all about Santa on the big day! 🙂 BTW, I added you to my reader, so glad for giveaway day!

My favorite holiday tradition is probably the “gift-time dance.” We open gifts Christmas eve, in the evening. At about 1pm, my father (who is now retired) will begin asking “can we open the gifts yet?” My mother will respond “not until dinner’s done!”

Then the dinner will be eaten, but ALL the dishes need to be washed before the presents can be unwrapped. Of course we enjoy dragging this out to torture my father. Then we all go sit in the room by the Christmas tree. We go to hand out the first gift…Oops, someone has to run to use the bathroom, we have to wait.

It’s so silly, but it’s something I look forward to, EVERY YEAR. My father, the eternal 5 year old.

Thanks again for a fun giveaway!

Kat - What beautiful fabrics!

My favourite holiday tradition is our insane tree decorating – we have acquired so many decorations over the years (some beautiful traditional ones, some terrible tacky fun ones) that we no longer go for beautiful. We go for masses of stuff! There is an ongoing competition between me and my sister to see who can put just one more item on the tree before things start to fall off!

sean - I don’t enter these things that often because I don’t have any luck. But my daughter said I should so here goes, in the past she had me enter for her. This time I hope to win something for my wife.
