Cathryn and Kurt were married this weekend at the Garden of the Gods Club in Colorado Springs.  Their wedding was so full of joy and love and family–it was one of those weddings where we walked away not just loving the couple, but their family, too!  Cathryn also presented me with a first: she’s the first bride I’ve photographed who was actually working on WORK when I showed up!  As her makeup went on she was alternately dictating email and checking on the breakfast her uncle was making for everyone.  Since we had limited time for portraits at the Garden of the Gods Club, Kurt and Cathryn had their first look and initial bride and groom portraits at Garden of the Gods before we traveled to the club for the ceremony and reception.

first roll of film

Jul 06, 2013

Shortly before the Black Forest Fire began I’d decided to purchase a film camera.  Film has been seeing a resurgence in the last several years (with talented photographers like Jose Villa, Elizabeth Messina, and Jonathan Canlas inspiring digital photographers to dip their toes into the dark(room) side) and after years of being tempted, I finally made the plunge and ordered an F100 and several rolls of film.  When we got back, our impromptu celebratory “they saved our houses–we’re still neighbors!” barbeque seemed the perfect place to debut the toy that arrived during our evacuation.

The details:  Nikon F100 camera, 85mm f/1.4 D lens, Fuji 400H film, developed and scanned by Richard Photo Lab.  These are the straight scans I received–no color adjustments by me.

Cassie and Craig were married last weekend at the Mount Vernon Country Club in Golden.  Their wedding was absolutely beautiful with Cassie organizing many incredible details.  Sparkle was the order of the day, right down to her to die for shoes.  I was in real danger of photographing them for far longer than is a reasonable amount of time to spend photographing the day’s shoes!  Cassie and Craig are such a wonderful couple that it didn’t surprise me that even the weather wanted to cooperate on their wedding day.  It rained while they were getting ready, then just as Cassie walked down the aisle the sun burst from the clouds and they enjoyed a gorgeous sunny evening for the rest of the wedding!  I can’t imagine a better metaphor for the sunshine that Cassie brings to a room!
